New Septic Systems Process
Put our experience to work for you to ensure that your system works properly.
We take the stress out of the process for you by doing the following:
1) We meet with you and go over the details of your location.
2: We do all the preliminary drawings required by the Health Department.
3: You simply put down a deposit and we obtain the required permit for you.
4: We schedule a Perc test with the County for you and call Miss Dig for their approval so that gas lines and utilities are marked before any digging.
5: Once we have a permit which will establish the type of system the county will allow you to build, we will give you a final estimate based on the permit requirements.
Step One: Call Shelars
To get the process started simply call Shelar Sanitation at 517-764-1650. Let us do all the work to obtain the permit. Duane Shelar will set up and appointment with you to meet at your property to do a preliminary drawing that is needed as part of the permit process. A Health Officer from your county will have to be present for the 2nd step.
Step Two: Schedule the Perc Test
We call your local health department and make an appointment for a perc test at your property. The schedules of health officers can fill up pretty quickly during the busy spring and summer months. It may take anywhere from a week to three weeks to get on their schedule, so its best to get started with the process sooner rather than waiting to the last minute.
Step Three: Finalize the Build Requiremnts
Once the permit is obtained, it will specify how many square feet of drain field your property requires based on potential occupancy. If your septic tank is older and not a 1500 gallon tank, the health officer will require you install a new tank. If a municipal sewer system is available on your street you will not be able to repair or install a new septic system, rather you will be required to hook up your lines to the sewer system.
Step Four: Installation
Once a permit is obtained, Shelar Sanitation will give you a final construction cost estimate. With your approval, construction will begin as soon as we can get our installers to your site. Scheduling can be delayed by excessive rain, but normally we can get your job done in two or three weeks once it is approved.
